Welcome to Casa de Cavener where we are privileged with a secluded location bordered by two channels of the Huntington Beach Wetlands Conservancy and have only one neighbor. Since moving to this, our “dream come true,” we have adopted a focus on creating a California-friendly xeriscape.
We hope you will be delighted from the moment you arrive and experience the comfortable ambiance created by succulents (many started from cuttings from friends) and grasses, as well as other plants with nostalgic appeal to us. The pinyon pine (Charlie Brown’s Christmas tree) is virtually unchanged from its first appearance as our oldest son’s first Christmas tree. Also visible is a rose “Sonya”, a gift from Marilyn’s mother in 1984. We think you will appreciate the volcanic stone water feature, and hope you’ll take a moment to enjoy the quiet of the pergola which was constructed using scrap lumber from the Casa’s remodel several years ago.
Our side yard features an outdoor room with a fireplace – an extension of the home that provides a perfect place for relaxing conversation enhanced by the sounds of a water feature with aqua garden and the sight of stunning staghorn ferns and two classic Canary Island Palms. But continue along one of many paths and see if you find our unique clay sewer pipe and wine bottle succulent garden! Beyond you will find the gazebo with an invitation to enter and enjoy the view of Huntington State Beach, the wetlands with its many birds and interesting environs, and Catalina Island.
